Mikaila

Occupational Therapist

Mikaila is a bubbly, creative, and empathetic Occupational Therapist with over 10 years' experience working with children through to early adulthood, alongside a strong background in dance teaching. She brings energy, warmth, and a playful approach to therapy, with a genuine passion for helping each child feel seen, valued, and empowered.

Having worked across a wide range of ages and developmental stages, Mikaila is confident in connecting with both young children and adolescents. She understands that each stage comes with its own unique strengths and challenges, and tailors her approach to meet each individual where they are.

Mikaila has experience across NDIS, public health, and private practice settings, supported by a background in Physical Activity and Health with a focus on nutrition and exercise. This allows her to take a holistic approach to supporting children's development, wellbeing, and participation in everyday life.

What Mikaila loves most about Early Intervention is the opportunity to make a meaningful impact during such a critical stage of development. Supporting children to build foundational skills, confidence, and independence, while working closely with families and educators, is incredibly rewarding to her. She values creating consistent, supportive environments, knowing that small changes early on can have a lasting impact.

Mikaila has a strong interest in gross motor development and routine-based interventions, particularly within the environments where children spend most of their day. She takes a child-led approach to therapy, ensuring sessions are engaging, motivating, and meaningful. Reflection is also a key part of her practice, allowing therapy to remain responsive and effective.

She is passionate about celebrating the unique qualities of every individual and enjoys working collaboratively with parents, siblings, teachers, and educators. Mikaila is also driven to help bridge the gap in understanding around neurodiversity and psychosocial needs, providing education and practical strategies to support those around the child. She loves exploring creative tools and strategies that build independence and engagement in daily routines, with a strong focus on carryover into home and community life.

Outside of OT, you'll find Mikaila teaching dance, spending time with family, searching for the best woodfired pizza and açai spots, or winding down with a good TV show or rom-com, a cup of tea, and her nights in.
