Occupational Therapy

Early Intervention Support Services

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a type of allied health support that helps children and young people improve their skills in everyday activities.

OT focuses on helping children develop essential skills, including eating, dressing, toileting, personal hygiene (like brushing teeth and hair), and even writing. The goal is to empower children with the confidence and independence to manage these activities on their own.

Beyond personal care, OT guides children in managing responsibilities and engaging in activities at home, school, and within the community. For older children, it might also extend to participating effectively in the workplace. OT also promotes involvement in play and leisure activities, which are vital for learning, creativity, social interaction, and enjoyment.

Additionally, OT aims to improve physical abilities, ensuring smoother or easier movements, body awareness, balance, coordination, and sensory processing. This holistic approach helps children navigate their daily lives with greater ease and confidence.

Our approach to occupational therapy

We take a holistic approach to OT, considering each child's physical, developmental, and emotional needs. We understand that each child is unique, so we use a collaborative process that involves working closely with families to provide tailored strategies and support.

After an initial assessment, our OTs create an individual plan to help them reach their goals. This plan identifies areas for development and may include:

  • Exercises to improve strength

  • Coordination

  • Fine motor skills

  • Strategies for emotional regulation and daily living skills

How can Occupational Therapy
support my child?

Occupational therapy offers comprehensive support to children through a diverse range of intervention methods, tools, and strategies. Therapy focuses on each child's specific goals and offers practical assistance, helping them navigate daily tasks and interactions. This approach promotes independence, confidence and supports overall development and well-being.
